Saturday marks the second North Carolina-Duke matchup of the season, and there’s a fair amount at stake for both the Tar Heels and Blue Devils.
With a win, North Carolina would have no less than a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season title, while Duke would need a win against the Tar Heels, and a Virginia loss in order to see a three-way tie for first.
And while that certainly has ACC Tournament seeding implications, a No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament also hangs somewhere in the balance. The teams’ overall records and resumes are similar this season, and a UNC sweep of Duke could put the Tar Heels in the driver’s seat for a top seed in the big dance.
