UNC Basketball: Three Things Learned vs Miami

Hubert Davis’ UNC team continued a stretch of dispatching the ACC’s bottom-feeders, with their fourth win in a row by a double-digit margin. This time, it was Miami who were the victims of a 92-73 beating that pretty much was over by halftime. As the Heels prepare for the last week of the regular season, here’s what we can take away from this latest performance:

1. This team is capable of a more old-school kind of game

There were things about Roy Williams’ offensive approach that were going to need to be corrected when he handed the reins to his successor, Davis — he relied too much on having more physical and talented bigs than his opponents to erase the efficiency loss of a shot diet with a lot of contested post attempts; he ran close to the lowest rate of pick-and-rolls in the country which neutralized a lot of his ballhandlers’ ability to get to the rim and finish; he generally eschewed efficiency for volume by way of emphasizing the offensive glass.
