Monday’s win for the North Carolina Tar Heels not only gives them a two-game win streak as they head into Atlantic Coast Conference play but it was also a big milestone for Roy Williams.
With the win over Yale, the head coach earned win number 879 all time in his career moving him up to fourth on the list. But it was who he tied that makes it so special.
Williams tied his mentor and North Carolina legend, Dean Smith, for fourth on the all-time list with that win.
The Tar Heels presented Williams with a large plaque including a framed photo of Williams with his mentor Smith and a big 879 on it.
