North Carolina freshman point guard Cole Anthony scored a game-high 34 points in his debut with the Tar Heels on Wednesday night, beating a 17-year-old UNC record formerly held by Rashad McCants.
Anthony knocked down 12-of-24 shots from the floor, 6-of-11 from three-point range and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. He also pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out five assists in what was one of the most impressive freshman performances in Tar Heels history.
Junior power forward Garrison Brooks was the only other Tar Heel to notch double-figures, scoring 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe.
