A college basketball roster has a mix of guards, forwards, and sometimes centers. Some teams use three guards and two forwards, while other teams may use two guards, and three forwards. There’s really no “right” or “perfect” lineup; it just depends on the coach and the style of basketball he wants to play.
Coaches are also known to use numerous lineups depending on their team’s strengths and weaknesses. Each coach has a great understanding of their roster makeup, and what each player brings to the table.
Last season, it took UNC head coach Roy Williams most of the season to finally give in to the small ball starting lineup of Joel Berry, Theo Pinson, Kenny Williams, Cam Johnson and Luke Maye.
