A University of North Carolina baseball standout will be recognized by the program in 2017.
The school announced that former Tar Heel Dustin Ackley will have his jersey retired later in January. The ceremony will take place on Jan. 26 at halftime in a men’s basketball game between the Tar Heels and Virginia Tech Hokies.
In addition, Ackley will be honored with the 2007 Tar Heels team at the annual First Pitch Dinner on Jan. 28 at the Blue Zone.
Ackley was a standout at UNC right away. In his freshman season, he was named the national freshman of the year by both Baseball America and Rivals.
