On Saturday afternoon, the Tar Heels were beating the Iowa Hawkeyes by four runs before relinquishing the lead, and eventually the game. It was a stark difference at US Bank Stadium just 24 hours later when North Carolina trailed Purdue 4-0 before scoring three runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth, and winning on a walk-off hit of their own in the bottom of the 10th.
Joey Lancellotti went 2-for-5 on the day with two runs, two RBIs and the game’s only home run — his first of the season. Sophomore shortstop Danny Serretti got two hits in four at bats, while freshman second baseman Patrick Alvarez had a pair of hits in two plate appearances.
