For the first seven innings, it looked like the North Carolina Tar Heels would capture their third ACC Baseball Championship in the Mike Fox era.
Then the eighth inning happened.
UNC entered the top of the 8th holding a 3-2 lead over the Florida State Seminoles. They ended that top half, trailing.
A five-run top of the eighth doomed the Tar Heels on Sunday as closer Josh Hiatt just couldn’t put away the Seminoles. The inning was highlighted by a big three-run home run from Drew Mendoza to extend the Seminoles lead to 7-3. Mendoza previously hit a solo home run in the seventh inning as well.
