The funny thing about college baseball is that it’s not odd at all for a -4000, 9.5 run underdog to have a lead late in the game.
It’s also not odd for a bullpen that isn’t used to facing a stacked lineup to blow a big lead.
On Friday Night in Boshamer Stadium, the Long Island University Sharks refused to go away when the Tar Heels managed to grab a 5-3 lead, chipping away in the 8th and then exploding for four runs in the ninth when they were down to their last strike. A packed crowd that had been pushing the team all night held out some faint hope as the Sharks took an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the inning.
