The Diamond Heels suffered a tough 3-2 loss to UNC-Greensboro on Tuesday night. Carolina surrendered the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth after failing to take the lead in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded. Starting pitcher Shawn Rapp had a decent outing, giving up two runs in the first inning before settling down the rest of his 4.2 innings and fanning seven Spartan batters.
The Heels are desperate for momentum, as the loss to UNC-G dropped them under .500 for the first time this season. The 3-2 loss was Carolina’s sixth one-run loss of the season (the Heels are 9-6 in one-run games this season), which goes to show the fine margins this team plays on.
