As I noted a month ago, UNC sports fans have been treated to some incredible individual careers the past several years. It turns out that trend might have peaked this year, as for the first time ever, UNC has awarded the Patterson Medal to four student-athletes. The Patterson Medal is UNC’s most prestigious internal sporting award, given at the end of each academic year since 1924 to athletes who have had outstanding careers for UNC. According to UNC’s press release, “Patterson Medals are awarded primarily on career athletic accomplishments... Recipients must have competed in at least three seasons for the Tar Heels and concluded their collegiate eligibility.
