North Carolina was at its best on Saturday when it had to be, when it had to make shots and make stops, when had to make the plays that turned out to be the difference in the Tar Heels' 86-78 victory against Georgia Tech at the Smith Center.
UNC (13-2, 2-0 ACC) in recent years hadn't had much trouble against Georgia Tech. The Tar Heels won their two games against the Yellow Jackets (10-4, 0-1) a season ago by an average of 30.5 points. It was a different story here on Saturday, though, with Georgia Tech leading for nearly half the game.
