Former Miami Heat shooting guard Wayne Ellington was waived by the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, just one day after being shipped west before the NBA trade deadline.
Ellington was traded to the Suns on Wednesday along with Tyler Johnson in exchange for 11-year veteran big man Ryan Anderson. The 31-year-old wing waived the no-trade clause that he had with Miami in order for the deal to go through, despite the understanding that he’d likely be released before ever playing a game with the Suns.
The former Tar Heel sharpshooter is the third player on an expiring contract to be waived by the Suns this season along with Los Angeles Lakers center Tyson Chandler and Houston Rockets guard Austin Rivers.
