Veteran shooting guard Wayne Ellington is nearing a deal with the Detroit Pistons, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. He will officially be a free agent upon clearing waivers this weekend.
Ellington was waived by the Phoenix Suns on Thursday just one day after they acquired him from the Miami Heat prior to the NBA trade deadline. Now, he’s one of the top available players on the buyout market, and probably the most capable shooter among them.
The move makes sense for the Pistons, who traded away their best perimeter shooter — another former Tar Heel, Reggie Bullock — on Tuesday night.
