AUSTIN, TEXAS— Three University of North Carolina athletes advanced to the final round in their respective events on the first day of action on Wednesday at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
Jesse Hunt and Ethan Strand both advanced from the semifinals of the men's 1,500-meter run to Friday's final. Hunt finished ninth in Wednesday's preliminary round in 3:39.80, while Strand took 11th place in a time of 3:39.83. Strand was fifth in his prelim heat, and Hunt was sixth in his heat, earning a time-qualifying slot in the final.
