James Taylor says the very notion that he is alive at the age of 68, let alone enjoying a still-thriving career, didn't seem probable when he was a teenager struggling with drugs, mental illness and the cruel whimsy of the music business. "I didn't have any options" besides trying to make it in music, says Taylor, who spent his childhood between Massachusetts and North Carolina. (Chicago Tribune)
