In the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, the UNC Department of Athletics banded together to donate more than 2,000 food items then pack them into 250 boxes for the Food Bank of Central-Eastern North Carolina.
With donations down and demand up, the Tar Heel staff was able to help fill a great deal of holiday need. More than 50 coaches and staff members worked to pack the boxes with various combinations of nonperishable items.
"Covid has certainly changed the way that our student-athletes, coaches and staff are able to serve the community, and this project was a safe way that we could make an impact, " said Korie Sawyer Rich, Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Development and the point person for the food collection.
