The North Carolina men’s tennis team will play in the championship game of the ITA National Team Indoors for the first time in school history after beating UCLA 4-2 Sunday in the semifinals. The Tar Heels, 9-0 this season, are ranked No. 7 nationally and are just the third Atlantic Coast Conference team ever to make the finals. (Virginia and Clemson are the others). UCLA, a seven-time winner of this tournament, is ranked No. 9 and fell to 7-2 with the loss.
Playing at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va., the Bruins, who have won this tournament on seven previous occasions, claimed the doubles point to go up 1-0.
