Cary, NC – Survive and advance is the mantra of any NCAA Tournament, but No. 2 North Carolina (17-1-0) did just that, scoring the lone goal of the game to defeat Washington (11-5-3) 1-0 and advance to the Quarterfinals of the 2020 NCAA Soccer Championship.
It was an aggressive start for the Washington, pushing the ball in deep against the Tar Heel back line throughout the first half. The Huskies registered seven shots, four on goal in the first 45 minutes of action, while Carolina had multiple scoring opportunities, but failed to convert, netting zero shots in the opening period.
