INDIANAPOLIS – North Carolina softball was selected to the 2016 NCAA Softball Championship field and will travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for the NCAA Regional on May 20-22. The Tar Heels (31-23) will open the postseason against Longwood (38-18) on Friday, May 20, on the campus of James Madison University. The host Dukes (46-4) earned the No. 7 overall seed and will host Princeton (23-26) on Friday.
Carolina punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament for the 13th time in the past 16 years and seeks its first ever berth to the NCAA Super Regionals. The Regional will follow a double elimination format, with one of the four teams in Harrisonburg advancing to face the winner of the LSU Regional in the Super Regionals, a best-of-three series, on May 26-29.
