BOONE, N.C.—North Carolina stopped Appalachian State on a two-point conversion try with nine seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Tar Heels a 63-61 win over the Mountaineers in a wild game at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday afternoon. App State scored 40 fourth-quarter points and scored six fourth-quarter touchdowns in a wild comeback effort.
UNC improved to 2-0 this season, while Appalachian State fell to 0-1.
Drake Maye threw for 352 yards and four touchdowns without an interception to lead the UNC effort and improve to 2-0 as a starter.
