CHAPEL HILL - No. 8 North Carolina opened the 2016 season with a 3-0 victory over Cal Poly on a hot and humid Friday evening from Fetzer Field.
Carolina waisted little time in scoring its first goal of the season Nico Melo worked his way up the touch line and delivered a pass at the door step for Alan Winn in the ninth minute of play.
Freshman Jeremy Kelly was one of the first substitutions for the Tar Heels, and that decision paid dividends when he found Tucker Hume posted up against a Cal Poly defender.
