Tar Heels earned spots in the singles and doubles quarterfinals with outstanding play Friday at the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships in Athens, Ga.
Freshman William Blumberg became the fifth player in UNC men's tennis history to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA singles tournament, mounting a comeback to defeat Florida's Alfredo Perez. In the afternoon, Blumberg teamed with junior Robert Kelly to advance to the quarterfinals in doubles, earning All-America honors for the duo.
In singles action at Dan Magill Tennis Complex, Blumberg dropped his first set 7-5 and trailed 2-0 in the second before rallying to win four straight games and take the set 6-4, closing it out with a service winner.
