Some University of North Carolina football players could miss the season opener at Cal in about a month.
The University has self-reported NCAA violations back in February after football players from the program were caught selling team-issued shoes. WRAL’s Jeff Gravely first reported the news on Wednesday night with Inside Carolina’s Greg Barnes confirming the report shortly after.
Athletic Department officials confirmed the report to Gravely as the University found that players were selling Air Jordan shoes and reported it directly to the NCAA in February. From there, the NCAA processed the report as a secondary violation back in March.
