Tar Heels Blank Knights 2-0 On Opening Night

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The ninth-ranked University of North Carolina women’s soccer team dominated the second half of play and pulled away to defeat UCF 2-0 Friday night at Fetzer Field before a crowd of 1,254 fans. It was the season opener for both teams and the match was played as the second game on the opening night of the 2016 Carolina Nike Classic.

UNC started its season on a winning note courtesy of second half goals by Sarah Ashley Firstenberg and Alex Kimball, both generated off plays that started as set pieces. The Tar Heels posted a clean sheet on the night with redshirt senior goalkeeper Lindsey Harris making two saves.
