Highs winds and steady rain caused scores to soar in the third and final round, but the University of North Carolina battled through those adverse conditions to earn a second-place tie at the Hayt Collegiate Invitational Monday at the Sawgrass Country Club.
Carolina and Louisville were deadlocked in first place at even par after 36 holes on Sunday, but it took a birdie on the final hole of the tournament by Tar Heel senior Austin Hitt to move UNC into a runner-up tie with the Cardinals at 24 over par. Tennessee won the team title by 13 strokes over UNC and Louisville after a third-round 294.
