Marvin Allen attended North Carolina in the 1930s. While a student, he helped found the school's first club soccer team. After graduation, he taught in the physical education department, where he helped elevate the club team to varsity status. Athletic director Bob Fetzer (the man the former field was named after) made Allen the first varsity soccer coach. (Tar Heel Blog)
