PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay’s run to the Main Draw doubles title came up short on Sunday at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship.
Facing the second-seed from California - Maegan Manasse and Denise Starr - in the championship match, Carter and Kay lost 6-1, 6-4.
Ranked No. 15 nationally, but unseeded in the tournament, Carter and Kay claimed a spot in the finals after defeating Georgia’s Ellen Perez and Mariana Gould, 6-4, 6-4, in Saturday’s semifinal match.
The Tar Heel duo upset top-seeded Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan of Florida, 8-2, in the quarterfinals on Friday.
