The U.S. Women's National Field Hockey Team beat Germany 3-2 in a sudden death shootout Sunday to win the FIH Hockey World League Semifinals title match. In Johannesburg, South Africa, sixth-ranked USA fought back from a second-half deficit to claim the championships against No. 7 Germany.
The U.S. roster of 18 included six current or former Tar Heels: rising junior Ashley Hoffman, May graduates Lauren Moyer and Julia Young, and UNC alums Jackie Briggs, Katelyn Ginolfi, Loren Shealy and Caitlin Van Sickle. There was also a Tar Heel on the other side of the field, with 2015 Carolina graduate Nina Notman playing for her home country.
