North Carolina sophomore Matthew Shlimak won the bronze medal in men’s epee and the Tar Heel women finished third in the team competition Saturday in Day 1 of the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, being contested at Notre Dame’s Castellan Family Fencing Center in the Joyce Center Fieldhouse.
Saturday featured the men’s individual competition in the morning and the women’s team competition in the afternoon. Notre Dame, which is ranked No. 2 in both the men’s and women’s polls, won the women’s team competition and also swept the top spot in all three men’s individual weapons.
