Eugene, Ore. – Tar Heel junior Jill Shippee (Clifton Park, N.Y.) finished 3rd in the 2021 NCAA Track and Field Championships in the Hammer Throw earning first-team All-America honors.
Shippee threw the hammer a lifetime-best 227'9" (69.42m), breaking her own ACC overall record. Shippee previously had placed 14th during the 2018 NCAA Championships.
This marks the first time Carolina has a women's track and field student-athlete finish in the top three of the Hammer Throw at the NCAA Championships. The best finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA Championship prior to Shippee's 3rd place finish was in 2003, Laura Gerraughty's placed 7th.
