The Boston Marathon begins at 8:40 a.m. Monday, and Flanagan will run in the elite women's start of the race at 9:32 a.m. The NBC Sports Network will carry live coverage of the race from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a marathon replay will air Monday at 8 p.m.

BOSTON (AP) — Growing up in nearby Marblehead, Shalane Flanagan watched her parents run the Boston Marathon and thought, "I want to do that, too."
Jordan Hasay watched Flanagan win in New York last fall, and had much the same idea.
