Seventeen University of North Carolina varsity athletics teams exceeded the national average for the past four years in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates and 13 squads posted perfect 1000s in 2018-19.
The APRs released today include single-year scores for 2018-19 and four-year rates that reflect scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
The NCAA uses the Academic Progress Rate to track the academic performance of scholarship students who compete on varsity teams. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester by student athletes at every NCAA institution.
The 17 programs that exceeded the national four-year rate include men's basketball, men's and women's fencing, men's golf, gymnastics, women's lacrosse, rowing, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, men's indoor and outdoor track and field, volleyball and wrestling.
