Seven Tar Heel are competing in the men’s tennis USTA/ITA Regional Championships, which run Friday through Tuesday at Cary Tennis Park. The first two rounds of the singles draw took place on Friday, with three UNC players winning their first two rounds to reach Saturday’s third round.
UNC’s Brett Clark, the top seed in the singles draw, won two matches in straight sets to advance. In his first-round matchup, he beat Thomas Panoulas from UNC Asheville 6-1, 6-1. He then defeated South Carolina’s Sam Swank 6-1, 6-3. On Saturday he’ll face UNC Asheville’s Alex Croker.
Jack Murray, the fourth seed, advanced as well, beating UNC Charlotte’s Vikram Hundal 6-3, 6-4 and Clemson’s Austin Ansari 6-4, 6-2.
