Bella Sember, a freshman from Centerport, N.Y., scored her first collegiate goal to break a scoreless tie with 13:26 to play in the first half to lead the fourth-ranked University of North Carolina women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over No. 22 Clemson Sunday at Dorrance Field.
The Tar Heels broke a two-game home winless streak in improving to 8-1-1 overall, 1-1-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. The Tigers fall to 7-3 and 2-1 in the league.
It was the first time this season Clemson was held scoreless.
Sember took a throw in, dribbled past several Clemson defenders toward the center of the field near the top of the box and launched a left-footed strike that beat Clemson goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff to the lower right corner of the goal.
