Midfielder Tess Boade's goal in the 55th minute gave No. 4 Duke a 1-0 win over No. 2 North Carolina in an ACC-opening women's soccer match for both teams Friday evening at Dorrance Field.
Duke is now 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, while the Tar Heels drop to 7-1, 0-1.
The loss was Carolina's first in a regular-season ACC game since 2016. The Tar Heels were 38-0-3 in their previous 41 regular-season conference games.
The game was played before a sellout crowd of 5,301, the fourth-largest home crowd in UNC women's soccer history.
