CHAPEL HILL - On a day when North Carolina welcomed its former players back to campus for Alumni Day, Alle Sanford won the clinching match in both singles and doubles to help send No. 1 UNC to a 6-1 victory over No. 13 Virginia on a chilly afternoon at the outdoor courts at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The doubles point came down to court two after Carolina (15-0, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) won on court one and Virginia (8-4, 2-2 ACC) did the same on court three.
UNC's Sanford and Makenna Jones trailed 4-3 in their match on court two, but ultimately held serve, got a break and then held again to grab a 6-4 win and a 1-0 lead.
