After he threw out a pretty customary slew of offers to the cream of the crop in the Class of 2021, we started seeing Roy Williams get into the guys he identified as late risers, or prospects underrated by the general public and recruiting services, or simply guys he thought would outplay their ranking in his system. First was Hunter Sallis, whose 247 Composite ranking was in the 30’s when UNC offered him but is now considered a top-20 player, then Dontrez Styles, who is ranked in the 50’s but is trending upwards according to all available information. Styles, of course, became UNC’s first commitment of the class, following players like Day’Ron Sharpe and Coby White as potentially underranked local prospects who committed almost immediately after earning a UNC offer.
