The spring transfer portal cycle is off and running, and North Carolina made its first big splash on Thursday evening.
Quarterback Gio Lopez, a sophomore from South Alabama, pledged his commitment to Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels. The 6-foot left-hander threw for 2,559 yards and 18 touchdowns last season with the Jaguars, while also running for 465 yards and seven touchdowns. South Alabama went 7-6 in 2024.
