North Carolina freshman Austin O'Connor won the UWW Junior Freestyle national title Saturday at the 2018 U.S. Open at South Point Arena in Las Vegas. O'Connor, who redshirted in 2017-18, beat Penn State freshman Brady Berge 2-2 on criteria the claim the junior national championship at 70 kg. UNC volunteer assistant coach Tony Ramos was a senior national winner, claiming the 57 kg title with a 2-2 victory on criteria over Daton Fix.
O'Connor won what was considered the toughest bracket in the junior event, beating top-seeded David Carr 6-5 in the semis before the tight win over Berge in the final.
