No. 13 Tar Heels Drop Opener, 7-4

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. --- Nate Eikhoff landed the decisive blow with a three-run triple in the third inning, and No. 25 Virginia held on for a 7-4 win over No. 13 North Carolina Friday night at Davenport Field. Carolina got the tying run to the plate twice in the late innings, but Kevin Doherty and Tommy Doyle combined to get the last nine outs and make a winner out of UVA starter Connor Jones.

Carolina (24-10, 8-8 ACC) scored twice in the second on a Cody Roberts sacrifice fly and an error. But the Cavaliers halved the lead in the bottom half before a four-run third proved to be the difference.
