The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup kicked off in Canada this weekend, and there were nine current and former Tar Heel players representing their countries on the pitch.
Team USA will include Heather O'Reilly playing in her third World Cup, and Tobin Heath and Lori Chalupny in their second. Making their World Cup debut for the American side are Whitney Engen, Ashlyn Harris, and Meghan Klingenberg. Robyn Gayle will play in her second World Cup for Canada, while Lucy Bronze of England and Katie Bowen of New Zealand are making their first appearances in the tournament. Bowen is currently playing for UNC and will be a rising senior on the 2015 Tar Heel team.
