CHAPEL HILL—Twelve current and former University of North Carolina players, more than any school in the nation, will try out this weekend for the 2016-17 United States national women's lacrosse team at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.
The 12 players trying out this weekend include returning 2013 World Cup gold medal winners Kristen Carr (UNC '10) and Jen Russell ('10), both defenders. Other Tar Heels on the list include defender Maggie Auslander ('17), midfielder Maggie Bill ('18), midfielder Kara Cannizzaro ('13), midfielder Ela Hazar ('18), midfielder Marie McCool ('18), attacker Carly Reed ('17), defender Sloane Serpe ('14), defender Courtney Waite '15), goalie Caylee Waters ('17) and midfielder Laura Zimmerman ('12).
