Mitch Trubisky named starting quarterback for season opener

It's official.

On Wednesday, North Carolina football coach Larry Fedora said rising redshirt junior Mitch Trubisky will start at quarterback when the Tar Heels head to Atlanta on Sept. 3 for their season opener against Georgia.

The Mentor, Ohio native threw for 555 yards and six touchdowns while completing 85.1 percent of his passes a season ago. He also had 16 rushes for 101 yards and three touchdowns.

Trubisky has competed for the starting job with former quarterback Marquise Williams in each of the past two offseasons, with both players taking snaps during the 2015-16 season.
