May 9, 1960: Martin Luther King, Jr. speaks on UNC campus

Martin Luther King, Jr. gave a speech, entitled "The Struggle For Racial Justice," at UNC on May 9, 1960. '"It is either non-violence or non-existence." With those words Dr. Martin Luther King last night emphasized his belief that non-violence is the only answer to the racial problem in the U.S. as well as the international problem of co-existence among all nations,' began the article in the Daily Tar Heel.
