For the second year in a row, junior Erin Matson has been named National Player of the Year by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). She's the second player in the history of the award – which dates back to 2010 – to win it more than once.
The honor follows a slew of others for the Tar Heel forward, who also repeated as the Honda Sport Award winner and three-peated as the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-America selection.
During the extended 2020-21 season, Matson led UNC to the NCAA and ACC Championships and was named MVP of both tournaments.
