CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.—Gab Major tied a University of North Carolina program record with five goals in a driving rainstorm on Friday, leading the third-ranked Tar Heels to an 8-3 win at fourth-ranked Virginia. Major added an assist as Carolina posted its sixth consecutive victory.
The Tar Heels improve to 10-1 overall, 3-1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play this fall. UVA falls to 8-2, 2-2.
Nina Notman opened the scoring in the seventh minute for Carolina, scoring off a penalty corner with assists to Major and Emily Wold. Virginia tied the contest less than 10 minutes later when Riley Tata scored.
