UNC took a lead over NC State with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The defense, which had been on its heels all fourth quarter, folded in a big way to allow the Wolfpack to march down the field for a go-ahead touchdown. State could have kneeled and kicked a walk-off field goal, but they decided to score and give the Tar Heels a chance. The Heels politely declined, resulting in a 35-30 loss in Mack Brown’s final game at Carolina.
The first half was not a display of offensive strengths by either side. UNC had uncharacteristic misses from Noah Burnette that took four points off the board.
