HARRISONBURG, VA. – Carolina fell behind 4-0 early, but a four-run fifth inning tied the score and senior shortstop Kristen Brown crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to propel UNC to a 6-4 victory over Longwood University in the opening game of the 2016 NCAA Regionals. Brown’s game-winning blast was the 66th of her career, breaking the all-time Atlantic Coast Conference career home run record.
Brown went 2-for-3 for the Tar Heels, tying UNC’s single-season walk record in the first, then tallying an RBI single in the fifth and the game-winning two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh.
