Until late June, Ron Miller, 74, had been at the helm of the UNC fencing program for 52 years. He was the school’s only fencing coach since it started in 1967. He’d coached 14 collegiate All-Americans, five U.S. National Fencing Team selections and two Olympians, and he’d sent at least one UNC fencer to the NCAA Championships in each season of his career.
